Anyone else currently running around like a chicken with their head cut off or is it just me? When life gets busy I like to take help wherever I can get it and that includes ordering lots of my household staples online and having them delivered right to my door. I started using iHerb 7 or 8 years ago when some of my favorite natural brands were hard to find locally – they’re a global leader in bringing the best value for over 30,000 brand name natural products at great prices and with free or discounted costs that can’t be beat. Today I can find most of these brands locally but I continue to shop from iHerb for the convenience! No need to run around to 3 or 4 separate specialty stores to get all the products I’m looking for plus they’re always offering great sales and discounts so I like to stock up whenever I can! This week I stocked the pantry with some of my favorite breakfast staples – spices, oatmeal, dried fruit, and nuts. I used them to create a hearty bowl of Golden Milk Oatmeal for 7 WW SmartPoints on both the Blue and Green WW plans.
Have you ever had golden milk? It’s a turmeric based drink that’s usually served warm and blended with other spices such as cinnamon and ginger. It’s reminiscent of a spiced latte and it’s touted for being full of antioxidants that boost immunity and fight inflammation. It’s deeeelicious and I thought the warm spices would be perfect combined with a bowl of cozy oatmeal.
Here’s the line up – all from my iHerb order!
The whole bowl of oats comes together in less than 10 minutes, including cook time. To start we need to gather our spices – I used Simply Organic turmeric, cinnamon, ground ginger, cardamom (optional), and vanilla extract plus a pinch of salt and pepper. I chose to sweeten my oatmeal with a packet of Wholesome Sweeteners organic stevia but you can use honey, maple syrup, or omit the sweetener entirely if you’d like. In a small pot we combine our spices and sweetener with 1/2 cup Nature’s Path organic old fashioned rolled oats and 1 cup of water and cook over medium heat until the oatmeal comes to a boil. Cook for 3-5 minutes until the oatmeal is thick and creamy.
Look at that golden color! Next is the fun part – choosing our toppings! I’m going for all of my favorite flavors and textures – crunchy, nutty, chewy, and sweet. I sprinkled on some Eden Foods organic dried cranberries which I love because they are sweetened with apple juice instead of sugar. They add a perfect chewy and sweet texture and a beautiful pop of color to the oats! I also added some Now Foods raw walnuts and a sprinkle of Edward & Sons organic unsweetened toasted coconut flakes. Love that the coconut is already perfectly toasted for me! I finished the bowl with a splash of unsweetened almond milk for a little extra creaminess. Time to dig in!
I love that my pantry has all the ingredients to make this delicious bowl of oatmeal all winter long! It’s a super quick and healthy breakfast for busy weekday mornings. You’ll love the warm spice blend paired with sweet cranberries and nutty coconut and crunchy walnuts. My Golden Milk Oatmeal makes 1 filling serving at 7 WW SmartPoints on both the Blue and Green WW plans (see recipe notes for point info) – enjoy!
