In a quart jar or microwave safe bowl mi vinegar, water, sugar, and salt.
Microwave for 1 minute and stir. The goal is to dissolve the sugar so continue heating in 30 second intervals until sugar is gone. (Mine usually takes about 1½ minutes total.)
Add onions to the hot vinegar and microwave for 1 more minute.
Allow onions to cool to room temperature and then cover and refrigerate. (Don't refrigerate before they are cooled because it's important for them to stay warm for quite a while by cooling slowly.)
Allow onions to pickle at least 1 day before servings. They are at their best after a couple of days! Enjoy!
